Subject: Advocacy Attention: Inclusion of Sex and Sexuality in Nigerian Primary and Secondary Textbooks
Dear Honorable Minister,
We hope this letter finds you well. We are writing on behalf of the International Human Rights Advocacy and Awareness Centre, registered organization with aimed to promote Educational upliftment of deserving members provision of scholarship endowment funds programs, a global organization dedicated to promoting human rights and education worldwide. Our mission is to advocate for the protection and promotion of human rights, particularly those of vulnerable and marginalized groups, and to raise awareness about the importance of inclusive and rights-based education.
We commend the Federal Ministry of Education for its commitment to improving the educational system in Nigeria. Education plays a pivotal role in the development of any nation, and it is crucial to ensure that educational materials are inclusive, balanced, and respectful of the diverse cultural and religious values within the country.
However, we have become deeply concerned about recent developments regarding the inclusion of content related to sex and sexuality in Nigerian primary and secondary textbooks. While it is essential to provide students with comprehensive education that equips them with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions about their health and well-being, we believe that there must be a delicate balance between education and respect for cultural and religious values.
Our organization recognizes the importance of respecting and preserving Nigeria’s rich religious and cultural heritage.
We acknowledge that the introduction of explicit content related to sex and sexuality in textbooks has sparked concerns among various segments of society who perceive it as a direct attack on their deeply held religious and cultural beliefs.
We wish to highlight some of the negative impacts that this inclusion may have on Nigerian young students:
1. Conflict with Cultural and Religious Values: The inclusion of explicit content on sex and sexuality may lead to cultural and religious tensions, potentially dividing communities and hindering social cohesion.
2. Parental Concerns:
Many parents may feel uncomfortable with the explicit nature of such content in textbooks and may fear that it could undermine their ability to instill their values and beliefs in their children.
3. Stigmatization and Bullying:
Students who are perceived as different based on their beliefs or sexual orientation may face stigmatization and bullying from their peers, leading to negative psychological and emotional consequences.
4. Challenges in Implementation:
Educators may face challenges in effectively teaching this sensitive content, potentially leading to misinformation or inadequate education on the subject.
5. Lack of Comprehensive Teacher Training:
Ensuring that educators are adequately trained to handle this subject matter with sensitivity and inclusivity is crucial, and the absence of such training can be detrimental to the quality of education provided.
In light of these concerns, we kindly request that the Federal Ministry of Education engage in a thorough and consultative process with all stakeholders, including religious and community leaders, parents, teachers, and experts in child psychology and education, to develop guidelines for the inclusion of sex and sexuality education in Nigerian textbooks.
These guidelines should aim to strike a balance between imparting essential knowledge and respecting cultural and religious values.
We firmly believe that with careful consideration and collaboration, it is possible to provide Nigerian students with a well-rounded and inclusive education that respects their cultural and religious values while also preparing them for the challenges of the modern world.
We look forward to engaging in a constructive dialogue with your esteemed ministry to ensure that the educational system in Nigeria continues to uphold human rights principles and values.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and we remain at your disposal for any further discussions or assistance.
Sincerely,
Dr Salisu Musa

We, as advocates for human rights, justice, and peace, call upon the world to unite in the pursuit of a just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
In the face of a crisis that has endured for far too long, we must act decisively to bring about peace, ensure a ceasefire, and reject stigmatization.
1. Peace and Ceasefire:
We urgently call upon all parties involved to immediately declare a ceasefire and commit to diplomatic efforts aimed at a just and lasting peace. The cycle of violence and suffering must end, and negotiations towards a two-state solution should resume.

5. Bridge Building:
We call for initiatives that promote dialogue, understanding, and reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians. People-to-people interactions and cultural exchange can help bridge divides.
6. Accountability:
Those who commit human rights abuses or violate international law must be held accountable. Support legal actions aimed at justice and the prevention of future violations.
7. Peace Education:
We encourage educational programs that teach tolerance, empathy, and the principles of peace to future generations. Fostering understanding and unity is key to breaking the cycle of violence.
8. International Solidarity:
Support international campaigns that advocate for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and pressure governments and entities to promote peace and respect for human rights.

10. Grassroots Activism:
Amplify the voices of local peace activists and organizations working tirelessly for peace and coexistence on the ground.
We believe that lasting peace is achievable, and we must all commit to working together for the well-being and future of all people in the region. Let us stand united in our call for peace, a ceasefire, and a rejection of stigmatization in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Advocacy Call for Raising Awareness about the Human Cost of War and Violence
In the face of ongoing conflicts and the unimaginable suffering they bring, IHRAAC stands unwavering in its commitment to raising awareness and advocating for peace.
We believe that understanding the profound human cost of war and violence is vital to fostering a more compassionate and peaceful world.
The toll of war and violence extends far beyond the headlines, statistics, and battlefields. It reaches deep into the lives of innocent individuals, families, and entire communities, leaving behind a trail of devastation that reverberates for generations. It is a cost that no one should bear.
We witness the loss of countless innocent lives – children, women, men who had dreams and aspirations, who had families and friends. Their voices are silenced, and their potential forever extinguished. We stand with them, and we must speak for them.
We see communities torn apart, homes reduced to rubble, and the displacement of millions, all seeking refuge from the horrors of war. They long for peace and a chance to rebuild their lives, free from the specter of violence.
We understand that war knows no boundaries, and its consequences affect every one of us, regardless of where we call home. The scars of war do not discriminate, and they persist long after the fighting has ceased.
IHRAAC calls upon all individuals, organizations, and governments to recognize the undeniable human cost of war and violence.
We urge you to join us in raising your voice for peace, advocating for dialogue, and working tirelessly to prevent further suffering.
Together, let us stand in solidarity with those who have no power to defend themselves, those who have been unjustly impacted by violence.
Let us shine a light on their stories, their struggles, and their resilience.
In the spirit of unity and compassion, let us strive for a world where the human cost of war and violence is no longer a burden that innocent lives must bear.
It is our collective responsibility to ensure that future generations inherit a world of peace and harmony.
Join IHRAAC in this advocacy effort to make a difference, to promote peace, and to condemn violence.
Together, we can turn the tide and build a more just and compassionate world for all.

IHRAAC Comprehensive Report on Escalating Insecurity in Katsina State – January 22nd, 2024
IHRAAC expresses deep concern over the escalating insecurity in Katsina State, particularly highlighted by two recent incidents.
On January 19th, bandits entered Garwa village in Batsari local government area, resulting in the tragic loss of two lives and the abduction of innocent individuals. One abducted individual, Basiru, was fortunately rescued from the bush where the bandits fell asleep, but regrettably, the remaining two were found to have been killed.
Adding to the distressing situation, IHRAAC received reports of bandits resorting to a dangerous tactic: disguising themselves in soldiers’ uniforms. On January 22nd, these impostors carried out mass abductions in Batsari, instilling fear and confusion within communities. This deceptive strategy not only exacerbates the overall insecurity but also poses severe negative impacts.
Negative Impacts:
1. Heightened Fear and Insecurity:
The use of soldiers’ uniforms by bandits creates uncertainty and fear among communities, eroding trust in genuine security forces and exacerbating overall insecurity.
2. Humanitarian Crisis:
Mass abductions contribute to a humanitarian crisis, affecting victims, their families, and the broader community. Displacement and trauma worsen the already challenging humanitarian situation in the region.
3. Economic Disruption:
Banditry disrupts economic activities as people fear going about their daily lives, hindering economic growth and development in affected areas.
4. Undermining Military-Civilian Relations:
Impersonation of soldiers undermines the relationship between the military and civilians, creating a climate of suspicion and hindering genuine security efforts.
Strategies for Resolution:
1. Enhanced Security Measures:
Immediate implementation of enhanced security measures in vulnerable areas like Garwa village to prevent further incidents and ensure community safety.
